Russia has plenty of it's own dry terrafirma to exploit yet and doesn't need to be drilling in the Arctic Ocean.<br /><br />The Arctic is a very fragile ecology and it doesn't take much to cause considerable damage there, the consequences of which are still unknown. So I support them in this as it has brought the drilling to our attention and generated a debate on the issue.<br /><br />I know that when a Kiwi gets into strife overseas our Govt. will step in to help but will recover the cost should that person need to be repatriated. Some governments would even not bother helping their citizens, if they caused to end up in strife through own neglect or wrong conduct, of whatever kinds.<br /><br />The world out there is not that "humane", and while I agree, that Ms Bishop is going over the top with this, and turning this into a political issue, Mr Russell would certainly have been contacted by the German authorities by now, to pay back what it cost the government to help him, had he been a German citizen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
