The well educated amongst the population may feel a little patronised by the way Jacinda addresses the audience, but that audience is a far more mixed demographic than ever before. There are many of us for whom English is not a first language, and it may be that young and very young people are also tuning in to her press conferences and public announcements. This is history in the making, after all. <br /><br />I have never been part of Polly's audience but I did read her opinion piece and found it crass, to be frank. What is important is that the PM's message reaches as many people as it possibly can and the rather nasty, snide way Polly went about creating her click-bait article did her no credit at all.
