They are or were then, biased against Goff's team. And Key and his office taking advantage of it may be just dirty politics but it needs jumping on for sure. If Key does not get that then I'd be more than surprised. He will lose supporters as a result if he pushes his version of reality any further on this one. It's at least half bull.
But at the same time I cannot believe how ineffectually some on the left have reacted. Vitriol and personal attacks don't work, as they come across as just shrill & a continuation of standard dirty politics. But taking the cake was Goff leaking the findings to select media. Unbelievable hypocrisy & daft politics too, which again just hands the enemy grenades and turns the public off permanently.
It's almost as if Goff wanted to help Key & Slater, because it predictably did. Perhaps they have some dirt on him he wants them to leave in the draw?
Charles Enoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3753486518085091399.post-41741280910809848532014-12-04T09:15:05.214+13:002014-12-04T09:15:05.214+13:00I don't know of out conspiracy theories, but t...I don't know of out conspiracy theories, but the various intelligence services have always spied on quite moderate left-wing politicians. Look at Harold Wilson :-). Hardly a raving Trotskyite. If there are any conspiracy theories, I think they lie in the other direction :-).Guerilla Surgeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03427876447124021423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3753486518085091399.post-10894773150494506862014-12-03T15:07:54.505+13:002014-12-03T15:07:54.505+13:00Another fine bit of imaginative novella writing. Y...Another fine bit of imaginative novella writing. You really should write a spy novel Chris, you have the material pouring out of you. I do mean that as a compliment.
But really only you can get away with such a grand conspiracy theory, without being thought a crackpot. You are saying that the spooks are always focused on undermining the left, in aid of a vast plot to further the interests of the money men. You would of course only need to add the word 'Jews' to enter crackpot territory.
I think that you credit the money guys and the spies with way too much ability and deep thought. To all these decades be pulling the strings so successfully and secretly across the world.
The left is targeted, simply because the spooks find it is usually where to find the traitors in our midst. Crude but effective, from their point of view (although mostly a complete, and embarrassing waste of time & money). Like cops targeting brown skinned hooded youth on the streets, because they see them as more likely to be petty crims than average. It’s correctly data based, plus prejudiced. During the Cold War the enemy was the Communist world and so who might be on their side among us? Not the National Party membership they presume.
More lately the enemy is Islamism and guess which people put their hands up (oddly) to be on their side, at times? Extreme left wingers who presumably like the threats the Islamists pose their mutual enemies, the US and its allies, which includes us.
So that is more likely to be why the SIS looks through the windows of left wing activists. No conspiracy, just a crude dull headedness.
If there was an organised far right threat out there in the world we had to be worried about then I bet they would be interested in right wing activists. I expect in the late thirties and WWII they were spying on such people. But it was not a long period so they were probably too slow to develop that much.
Charles Enoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3753486518085091399.post-28704182877500329572014-12-01T16:07:06.288+13:002014-12-01T16:07:06.288+13:00I have my doubts that Aeroflot had anything as sop...I have my doubts that Aeroflot had anything as sophisticated as frequent-flier passes in those days. The interesting thing about the flat other than the vast book collection- I vaguely think a lot about Islamic subjects was the walls were covered with maps of Bosnia/ ex Yugoslavia like it was a military planning exercise.
In terms of Helen Clark. In a General debate about 1987/8, the Shipley era Minister Nat Micheal Cox a former commissioned officer ( I guess) and regular drinking mate of the old Thompson, Muldoon, MacLauchlan, Cox, Mess Members bar drinking team made the claim that H.C had regularly visited the Soviet Union and was such a frequent visit to the old SU that she had an Aeroflot frequent flyers pass.Micheal Cullen rose to his feet immediately and tried to have it stripped from the records, but still in the NZPD. Hardly likely Cox would have made unmentionable claim out pure malice, lubriation ro politics.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3753486518085091399.post-18359764648028606162014-12-01T09:26:44.439+13:002014-12-01T09:26:44.439+13:00A masterly analysis.
