At the risk of being accused of "strawmaning", the terms I associate with what the the Woke want on this include "organic, natural, regenerative, agro-ecological, indigenous, heritage varieties, small, local, and chemical free". (No agriculture is "chemical free", it all needs oxygen dihydride, i.e. water). I also note that the regenerative agriculture "movement" has been criticized as "racist" for allegedly excluding BIPOC.

Woke rubbish on this isn't just Woke rubbish, it's dangerous Woke rubbish. My evidence for that? Two word summary: Sri Lanka.

To expand a bit, specifically the disastrous attempt to go 100% organic overnight. This began with a government ban on all imports of synthetic fertilizer and agrochemicals imposed in April 2021. It went so badly the ban was reversed in November of 2021. Far too late to avert a catastrophic loss of agricultural production, leading to the dire economic and political crises still wracking the country.

Ah, but, defenders of the Woke might say, other factors caused the crisis. There was a loss of income from tourism due to the pandemic, unwise excessive borrowing, including from China, even less wise tax cuts to hinder the governments ability to pay for anything, and general corruption and mismanagement by the regime. All true, and all contributing to the crisis. But many other countries also have similar factors, and haven't (at least, not yet) had the depth of crisis hitting Sri Lanka. The "100% organic" fiasco, leading to the particular depth of misery in Sri Lanka, is unique (at least so far) to them.

Unfortunately, ignoring expert agricultural advice is spreading. The latest genius move by the Trudeau government is to try to impose, by decree, a 15% reduction in fertilizer use on Canadian farms. The western plains farmers are pointing out this will not only decrease production, it will do so to a degree that imperils their financial viability. Way to go Justin! Cut food production and endanger farmers livelihoods, just as the world food supply is already threatened by the invasion of Ukraine! I would suggest to Trudeau that he pauses, takes a deep breath, and phones the ex-president of Sri Lanka for a full and frank discussion on the economic and political consequences of ignoring expert advice on farming before proceeding.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3753486518085091399.post-32419662756999407172022-07-26T17:43:40.863+12:002022-07-26T17:43:40.863+12:00Nice to see you are continuing to venture into the...Nice to see you are continuing to venture into the real world Chris. Though you are nailing a target on your back calling the woke out.
The simple rule I use for judging the validity of a party's argument is if they spend most of their words attacking the messenger, then it it is because they can't rebut the message. As a simple test, it works most of the time. Saying you refute something and not following it up with your evidence just shows how poorly educated you are. As for analysing events, it being a cockup rather than a conspiracy is invariably the case.
But I'm just a stale pale male white supremacist.
