Somehow Eurocentric society was so bad that a relationship between Maori and China is preferable. After all they have similar cultures

The question has received more than 400 answers from Zhihu users, which include some of the most representative perceptions of the 'white left'. Although the emphasis varies, baizuo is used generally to describe those who “only care about topics such as immigration, minorities, LGBT and the environment” and “have no sense of real problems in the real world”; they are hypocritical humanitarians who advocate for peace and equality only to “satisfy their own feeling of moral superiority”; they are “obsessed with political correctness” to the extent that they “tolerate backwards Islamic values for the sake of multiculturalism”; they believe in the welfare state that “benefits only the idle and the free riders”; they are the “ignorant and arrogant westerners” who “pity the rest of the world and think they are saviours”. [and biculturalism]

https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/digitaliberties/curious-rise-of-white-left-as-chinese-internet-insult/John Hurleynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3753486518085091399.post-83098416973235669512020-11-04T12:07:36.285+13:002020-11-04T12:07:36.285+13:00Martyn Finlay was outspoken on social issues like ...Martyn Finlay was outspoken on social issues like abortion, homosexual law reform and capital punishment. He was strongly opposed to the Vietnam War, and became a fierce critic of Rogernomics in his retirement. He availed himself of the right to free speech in all these causes, and others, often incurring the displeasure of his colleagues. I cannot for a moment see him having a bar of Jacinda's hate speech law. He would quickly have called out Wokeism for the insidious form of fascism that it is.Odysseushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04745489060434244478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3753486518085091399.post-40694489435572208392020-11-04T10:24:48.911+13:002020-11-04T10:24:48.911+13:00Half of NZ voted for Jacinda, not Labour. The consequences in such important and sensitive portfolios as Foreign Affairs and Justice could prove disastrous. With Winston gone Labour will have no one to blame if they fail to deliver. I very much doubt their ability to deliver the recovery this country needs with such a untalented and intellectually inadequate cabal lacking in real-world experience . In the Pacific her genealogy and standing is unquestionable. Throughout Asia there are sociocentric societies and governmental structures, Mahuta comes from a cultural background that also reflects this. If China is a focus for understanding in the portfolio, a Minister that doesn't represent western imperialism is not a bad start. 'Vision, courage, verbal felicity and real, on-the-ground, experience' is exactly what Nania and her father have been involved with successfully for decades within the politics of Tainui and the dealings with the Crown.
New Zealand has demographics which suggest that the ego-centric and Eurocentric direction of the country has been overtaken. Our reaction to the Christchurch shootings and Covid19 demonstrates that we have changed as a nation and a bicultural and multicultural mirroring of this on the foreign stage would seem a natural step.
The Barronnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3753486518085091399.post-37413229661835112892020-11-03T22:10:15.930+13:002020-11-03T22:10:15.930+13:00Interesting times ahead. It appeared the PM ruled out the prospect of industrial action to support FPA claims during the 2017 election campaign, and the Tri-Partite Task Force was resoundingly split on the issue of whether employer 'participation' was to be compulsory or voluntary. At a time when the Courts are already 'discounting' employer Health and Safety penalties due to the impact of Covid-19, it's reasonable to ask how effective any FPA enforcement mechanisms will prove to be. A far more effective means of addressing the principle issue that FPA's are designed to address might simply be moving the minimum wage rate much closer to the living wage. But that would be solely the responsibility of the Government.john commonnoreply@blogger.com
